There are many styles and types of tubs and sinks from which to choose, such as porcelain, enamel, fiberglass, and acrylic. Nothing looks more inviting than a freshly scrubbed sink or tub. Generally, a quick wipe after use will suffice to remove scum, but there are also wonderful spray-on sink and tub cleaners widely available.
Porcelain enamel tubs and sinks - wash with a gentle, all-purpose cleanser. - Remove hard-water stains with a solution of one part white vinegar and one part water, or use a commercial deposit remover for bathroom fixtures. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean rag.
Fiberglass and acrylic tubs - Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. If they are not readily available, call any good pluming supply store for how best to clean. - For stubborn stains, use a nylon bristle brush and undiluted dishwashing liquid. Never use abrasive cleansers.
Stainless steel sinks - make a cleaning solution from four tablespoons baking soda dissolved in one quart water. Wipe around the sink, using a cloth dipped in this solution. Wipe dry with a clean cloth, and polish with a dry cloth. - Alternatively, clean with a powdered all-purpose cleanser and a soft sponge, as necessary, depending on usage. - Rub lightly with the grain when cleaning. - For tough streaks and water spots, remove with a cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol, then let air dry. - Do not use bleach on stainless steel.
